Within this assignment, there were a number of software and hardware devices that were used in creating digital content for the information system.
Software:
- Microsoft Sharepoint Designer 2007: This was used for the creation of the website. It enabled multiple web site pages to be created, with the associated content ( music, text, videos, downloadable links).
- Microsoft Publisher: This was used for the creation of the RSS logo, which was included within the news broadcast video.
- Microsoft Powerpoint/ Microsoft Word: M.P was used for the creation of the powerpoint on the question of emerging trends (blogs). It allowed for the creation of multiple slides which included text and images.
- Inkscape: This was used for the editing of the background image on the emerging trend (blogs) question. It allowed for the modification of the brightness/contrast of the image. Thus as the original background was too dark, and the associated text would not be seen, this software allowed for the a lighter background.
- Prezi: This was used for the creation of the 'zooming presentation', for the question on Transmission Media. It allowed a new way, for the understanding and learning of information.
- iMovie: This was used for the editing of all the videos, created by the team. It was used for the welcome video, the news broadcast video, and the bloopers video. It allowed music to be added, transitions and other various aspects to be added to the video.
- Windows Movie Maker: This was used for the creation of the video, which was used within the News broadcast video itself.
- Audacity: This was used for the editing of sound in the Network Topologies video. It allowed for the modification of the tone of the speaker voice within the video.
- Media Converter: (online) was used for the converting of m4a audio files to wav audio files. As the original audio files (for the background music) were unable to be played on the web page, media converter enables a Youtube URL to be entered, a specific file format to be selected and converts it to that file format. It also allowed for an audio file to be selected and converted, but this unfortunately did not work.
- Quizlet: This was used for the creation of flashcards online, for the tips and tricks website page. It allowed for the screenshots of each flashcard on the page. Furthermore the website (Quizlet) was placed as a link on the Hypermedia website, for the student to visit and print out the flashcards for their own use.
- Google Docs: This was used as an extremely helpful tool for each of the group members, to share various documents on the assignment ( for example: the storyboard for the website) and communicate with one another.
Hardware:
- Computer: Without this piece of hardware, there would be no assignment! It was essential for everything, right from the creation of the website, to the sharing of documents ( through accessing of the Internet) to the editing of the videos and so on.
- Camera ( iPhone): This piece of hardware was used for the recording of all the videos ( the welcome video and the news broadcast video. It gave clear resolution and sound for the video.
- Speaker: This enabled sound to be heard in the videos and for the background music.
- Microphone: This was used for the recording of the sound for the Network Topologies video.
- Headphones:This was used for hearing the sound for the videos, and the background music during class time.
- Projector: This was used during the news broadcast video, as it enabled the video behind the news reader to be displayed.
- USB: This was an essential piece of hardware. As it allowed for all the work within the assignment to be saved and used anywhere at any time.
